I Want To Talk To Recruiters About Job Postings

I Want To Talk To Recruiters About Job Postings Last week I had a super-insightful call about job postings and job boards with a senior recruiter.  It was eye-opening and exciting. Ive been a student of the job search world for 9+ years, and Ive written plenty about job postings and job boards.  Its time for me to learn more about the current state of affairs of job postings and job boards, and specifically, what do you LOVE and HATE about job boards, as far as where they meet your needs? If you are a recruiter, or if you have ever posted a job ad (maybe you were in HR, or you were the hiring manager, or an admin who posted for someone), lets jump on a call.  Email me at Jason@JibberJobber.com and help me understand this space better. Kirsten Alana I arrived in Goa on a flight with @theworldwanderer but we were strangers who merely knew of one another via social media. Almost two weeks later we left on the same flight headed home to NYC and in between through shared adventures and late night chats, we truly became friends. We also connected on a deeper level with Prachi Jain, the co-founder of @leaveurmarkindia and the reason we both found ourselves in India for the second time in our lives. Together the three of us have already made some big plans for 2017 that we cant wait to officially start working on but even if that hadnt happened this moment on our last day in Goa just after lunch at Elevar would still feel like some kind of full circle. • We all arrived as strangers. We all left as friends. In a group of 15 wildly different people from several different continents and many different countries, all kinds of bonds were formed during #escape2goa that will live on for years if not forever. In a time where bad news is dom inating the news headlines and it feels like there is not a lot to be hopeful about, Im so grateful to Leave UR Mark because they reminded me once again that traveling and experiencing other cultures is of utmost importance. A better world wont be found by staying at home, closing borders and building walls. So while the main endeavor of @leaveurmarkindia is to provide volunteer opportunities inside the country, and its something they do very well I have to applaud them for bringing us together and empowering us to go back out into the world to try to be agents of change both at home and abroad. I think every one of us has left Goa with new ideas and new goals for 2017!! ?????? Minimalist Dreams Taking Inspiration from Totokaelo

Minimalist Dreams Taking Inspiration from Totokaelo I have always admired minimalist designs. Weather it is fashion, interior, or life in general  I feel that there is so much discipline involved  in letting go. Totokealo  shows us how to do it. I have always admired minimalist designs. Weather it is fashion, interior, or life in general  I feel that there is so much discipline involved  in letting go. Totokealo  shows us how to do it. This week I found the ultimate minimalist inspiration in fashion and design emporium Totokaelo   (pronounced Toh-toh-KYE-oh). A local institution of Seattles art scene, CEO Jill Wenger puts the spotlight on the best of the best independent local artists and designers  into an elegant and beautiful avenue both online or offline. This cultural landmark occupies a large storefront on Capitol Hill that truly showcases their aesthetic. Ive seen the pictures, and it truly is a minimalist dream. Every girl who aspires to create a beautiful minimalist work environment should take notes from this amazing design influencer. Here are some tips inspired by Totokaelo. 1. Assign a space. While it is tempting to just work anywhere, youll be surprised at the productivity and creativity that having your own space can bring you.  When the company was starting out, its employees would work anywhere they can, and Jill recalls that the move into an assigned work space was  less about brand evolution and more about gaining much-needed thinking space. 2.  Space is very important. Let go of as much as you can and organize whats left wisely. The Totokaelo office is a minimalist wonder, with lots of airy space that encourages imagination.  The buildout was simple, says Jill, we were handed an empty shell. 3. The details matter. You will see that their office may have an empty template kind of feel, however, small items and accessories on the tables gives character without overwhelming the overall aesthetic. 4. Dont just dress up, dress smart. Creating a minimalist lifestyle extends beyond the work space. While you can work in just whatever you want to wear, dressing smart will make you feel smart. Dressing up doesnt take too much of your time and effort. 5.  In creating a minimalist space, whats most important is the idea of prioritization.  As Jill explains in her interview  when asked what she thinks less is more means, she explains:  Make smart and informed choices. Resist passing urges for something more lasting. I recently read that  â€œMinimalism is the intentional promotion of the things we most value and the removal of anything that distracts us from it.” If we are able to let go of things that we dont need, and if we are truly able to free ourselves of excessiveness, we can focus on whats important, and leave more space for bigger and better possibilities. CFO Executive Resume Employment Gap Is Volunteering Really a Job - Executive Career Brandâ„¢

CFO Executive Resume Employment Gap Is Volunteering Really a Job I’m working on a resume and profile for a Chief Financial Officer who has been a powerhouse finance management executive across multiple industries â€" Healthcare, Finance, Publishing, Telecom, Information Services, Technology. Initially, he characterized himself as unemployed since last December, which left us with an employment gap to be addressed on his resume and elsewhere. Not a serious problem, but one that warranted consideration. Although gaps are being accepted more these days in this tough executive job market, unfair as it is, those candidates with consistent employment are typically still more prized. When we discussed what had been occupying his time for the 7 months since he’d been laid off, he told me about his volunteer work at the corporate level for a world-renowned organization in the non-profit sector. For the past 2 years or so, he had been traveling to national headquarters and providing critical leadership, counsel, financial modeling and risk management expertise to the organization’s technology and finance people. Bingo! We found the perfect solution to his employment gap. This was solid, relevant experience, well-aligned with his value as a CFO, and reinforcing his brand,  integrity and compassion as a leader. But, my client asked, this is volunteer work. Can it legitimately be called a job? I explained that first of all, it’s not unusual these days for senior-level executives to have gaps here and there between jobs. There’s nothing wrong with those gaps being evident, but if we can close the gaps with experiences that support the job seeker’s candidacy, so much the better. Whether or not you get paid for doing valuable work is irrelevant. He had been contributing many, many hours supporting and improving the organization. My advice when faced with employment gaps: Look at ANY volunteer work you’ve done. If you’ve been out of work for several months, and really doing nothing, find somewhere to volunteer your time, so you’ll have something to show in your career marketing communications. Just as your job search should focus on employers who are a good fit for your expertise, your search for volunteering opportunities should focus on organizations that are a good fit for your expertise. Is Twitter The New Way to Find Hidden Jobs - CareerEnlightenment.com

Having a purpose when using Twitter will help you avoid all of those people talking about what they had for breakfast or what song they are listening to right now. After all, you control who you follow. And if you are choosing to use Twitter to find a job, then the people you choose to follow will most likely be relevant to your industry and your target organizations.According to a recent survey,  over 8 million Americans found a job through a connection made via Twitter. So to answer my reader’s question, yes, Twitter is a fundamental tool for the modern job seeker. Avoiding it for whatever reason (age, resistance), puts you at a significant disadvantage in the marketplace. Here’s my challenge to you this week. Spend one week actively using Twitter. There are plenty of books, videos and articles on how to be active on Twitter. If after one week, you hate it, fine. But I’m willing to bet that you will have had a really good time. And who knows, maybe you will have met your next b oss!
